Architecture West is a division of Nicklaus Engineering, Inc., a multi-disciplinary A&E firm in Yuma, Arizona. Since 1984 Architecture West has been designing new facilities, renovations, alterations and additions for offices, medical offices, recreational facilities, schools, churches, agricultural facilities, military facilities, RV parks, restaurants, hotels, and municipal facilities including public works, libraries, community centers, parks, detention centers, courthouses, and historic rehabilitation.
Working in association with the other in-house engineering divisions of our parent corporation, Nicklaus Engineering, Inc., we offer our clients a cohesive design package with few outside consultants. Our services take you from site assessments and preliminary design through the final construction inspection.
Our architectural staff has a combined experience of more than 50 years. Architecture West recently switched from Autodesk Architectural Desktop to Autodesk Revit 7.0 to provide a more integrated design package for our clients. Our projects are now all completely designed as 3D models thereby reducing overall project time, cost and errors, and allowing us to easily and inexpensively create project renderings for our clients. In-house staff also includes talented rendering artists using ink and oil mediums for clients wanting images generated by hand. Architecture West is currently the only Yuma firm with these 3D computer and hand illustration services.
Both our architectural and civil engineering divisions have collaborated with other regional and national architecture firms including Gould Evans, Durrant, ABA Architects, BPLW, Westlake/Reed/Leskosky, and Carter Burgess.
YUMA COUNTY JAIL DISTRICT FACILITY
This 3 story, 100,000+ SF, $10+ million facility includes a subterranean parking garage/storage and 80 cell detention center. This project is located in Yuma's historic district, and, as such, the design was required to be submitted to the city's historical committee for approval. New subterranean inmate tunnels were also constructed from the existing facility and under 3rd Avenue.
YUMA COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF DEVELOPMENT SERVICES
Architecture West had the distinct honor of being selected to design this new facility for the Yuma County Building Official, County Engineer and Planning & Zoning Department. Included in the 34,000 SF facility are administrative and engineering offices, a large customer service area, conference rooms, training rooms, technical library, fire rated documents vault, document storage, employee lounge, and restrooms. An additional challenge was added by the requirement of remediating contaminated underground water and soil from the previous Public Works facility located on the building site. A vapor liner was added to prevent fuel vapors from penetrating the new building in the future. In addition, an in-situ remediation system was designed and installed to remediate the site. Construction scheduling required working around the existing facilities until the departments could move into the new facility, at which time the existing buildings were demolished to create the new parking area. Coordination with County ITS department was also required.
CALVARY TEMPLE OF CHRIST
This 23,000 SF, two story church includes a 600 person sanctuary, classrooms, welcome center, restrooms with shower facilities and offices. Site design includes a water holding tank for well water for water and fire sprinkler services to the facility. The building was designed as a pre-engineered steel building with added steel stud parapet wall.
SAN LUIS CULTURAL CENTER
Due to a limited budget funded primarily by CDBG and a poor bidding climate, this facility was split into three distinct design and construction phases. The first phase included a partial auditorium, small restrooms, a storage room, and some parking. The second phase expanded the size of the restrooms and included offices and a large entry display hall. The final phase will expand the auditorium, provide a wheelchair lift and landscaping.
SAN LUIS FIRE STATION EXPANSION
Using extremely limited CDBG funds, a 3,700 SF building was constructed for the fire department. The building contains male and female dormitories, restrooms with showers, a kitchen, dayroom, reception, and classroom that also serves as a emergency operations center.
SAN LUIS LIBRARY EXPANSION
Another CDBG funded project, this addition created larger restrooms, new offices, a large computer area, new book stacks area, and a new front counter. The existing facility had to remain in operation while construction was completed.
